Barbara Gittings

A native of South Africa, Gittings began her career in ceramics after relocating to England. She crafts bowls and bottles using the nerikomi technique, which consists of cutting and slicing different colored blocks of clay and recombining them to create a larger pattern.  Her works are heavily influenced by her work in fashion as a pattern cutter, as well as her father's career as a geologist. These aspects of her life are echoed in her pieces' geometric patterns and asymmetrical shapes.
