Process Series Minis
Matthew Shlian
"Process Series"
Shlian began his academic career focused on ceramics, but soon realized he wasn’t just interested in ceramics. He was interested in everything. He soon found he loved the immediacy of paper as his medium. An advisor gifted him a pop-up book and after some investigation into their mechanics, his style took off. The artist says his starting point for each piece is curiosity. He goes on to say that he must finish a work to understand it, and that the end result is a surprise.
This set of three mini process pieces are handheld wonders. At only 5/8" deep, they each portray a movement in space receding further than their depths could seeminlgy contain. The three pieces crafted in acid free archival papers include TURN (Ivory), FOLD (Orchid), & DROP (Alaska Blue).
