Omoplata - Framed

"Omoplata" 

Shlian began his academic career focused on ceramics, but soon realized he wasn’t just interested in ceramics. He was interested in everything. He soon found he loved the immediacy of paper as his medium. An advisor gifted him a pop-up book and after some investigation into their mechanics, his style took off. The artist says his starting point for each piece is curiosity. He goes on to say that he must finish a work to understand it, and that the end result is a surprise.

Each Omoplata is made of 16 modular units with gouache wash applied before assembly. All the pieces in the series are in a blue / light blue / blue green range in tone. Each piece is unique and will exhibit a range of value as light falls on the curve folded modular shapes.
