To Michael Bauermeister, wood is a language in and of itself. He uses the medium to capture the wonders of the natural world, specifically the Missouri River bottoms where he lives and works. To build the pieces seen here, Bauermeister stacks and glues layers of wood, hollowing out the inside as he goes. He then sculpts the resulting vessel with tools and by hand, creating pattern and texture.
